Medical Diagnostech: Ashley Uys – Diagnosing success!
Meet South African Ashley Uys founder of Medical Diagnostech, the young scientist and entrepreneur behind three companies that manufacture, market and distribute low-cost medical and drug abuse diagnostic test kits. Before the age of 30 he developed a malaria testing kit. Ashley’s company, Medical Diagnostech develops and markets affordable and reliable medical test kits for malaria, pregnancy, syphilis, malaria, HIV/ Aids for South Africa’s rural poor. The malaria testing kit, for example, not only gives an early diagnosis and the strain of malaria but also indicates how well the medication is working. It costs R4.
Ashley ‘s hard work is recognised worldwide: he won South African Breweries Innovation Award, he has listed as one of Forbes’s 30 Under 30: Africa’s Best Young Entrepreneurs in 2011, Uys is a great believer in giving back to the community, supplying drug rehabilitation centres with cost-price drug testing kits. He continues to research and develop new products, among them a pre-diabetic test and one that reveals whether an individual has consumed alcohol up to four days before the test. His company Medical Diagnostech won $120,000 in prize money at the SAB Foundation 2nd Annual Social Innovation Awards.
