Overweight and obesity is caused by abnormal or excessive fat accumulation that presents risks to an individual’s health. Want a flat stomach like the ladies below?…
Overweight and obesity are estimated using BMI (Body Mass Index) which is calculated using a person’s weight in kilograms divided by his or her height in meters square.
BMI of 30 or more is generally considered obesity. BMI of equal to or more than 25 is considered overweight.
It is important to know that being overweight or obese predisposes an individual to medical diseases such as stroke, heart failure, cancer, sleep apnea, osteoarthritis, fatty liver disease, kidney disease, high blood pressure, pregnancy problems, etc

Anna said being on TV and putting on weight attracts negative comments from some of the ruthless media. She decided to put the ‘body shamers’ to shame by not hitting back, but rather concentrating on getting fit and healthy.
She started watching her daily food intake, cutting get back on all the junk food… as well as drinking lots of water and liquids. Because of her busy schedule going to the gym was a nightmare, she started walking instead of driving/taxi, dancing and in no time she started noticing that most of her clothes were very loose…
Anna says it has not been easy but is worth it!

There are certain measures one can take to tackle weight problems:
1) Do not starve yourself!
Eat food, but not too much.
Eat mostly plants (vegetables)
2) Eliminate simple carbs.
It is basic but a lot of people consume significant calories daily from carbs – regular sodas, fruit drinks, white flour sweets (cakes, cookies), pizza, etc. Eliminate these calorie sources. And adults should be reminded of the many calories contained in most alcoholic beverages.
3) Limit your access to junk food
4) Portion size and calorie intake.
Studies have found a certain correlation between portion size and calorie intake. If you put a bigger serving in front of someone, the person will consume all of it. The hunger and satiety levels are ignored or overridden.
5) More intake of fruits and water promotes early satiety.
6) Exercising constantly.
Patients are often advised to have a regular exercise routine. Pick any sport activity or exercise routine you love to do. For those that are elderly, taking a 30-minute walk daily is recommended.
After all these is done, make it a priority. Plan to decrease or stop drinking sugar sweetened beverages.
Be patient. Do not expect to see changes in a few days. It is gradual
