Anthony Joshua British Professional Boxer

Anthony Oluwafemi Olasemi Joshua is one of the most successful boxers with numerous titles and a very high win-loss ratio.

He was born in 1989 in Hertfordshire to Nigerian parents who are of Yoruba descent.

The now boxer spent his childhood in Nigeria at a boarding school until his parents got divorced when he was 12 years old. He went back to the UK to attend secondary school, where he was praised for his excellence at sports.

CAREER

It wasn’t until 2007 that he joined the world of boxing after being encouraged by his cousin.

His entrance into the international scene only came about in 2012 Olympic Games. Battling against several boxers who were previous silver medalists or champions, he became the Olympic champion.

A huge success that helped him get chosen as a member of The Order of the British Empire the following year. This was also when he was upgraded from an amateur into a professional.

In 2013 he fought professionally at the O2 Arena, London and Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield. Towards the end of the year, he had his third win over a Croatian heavyweight, meaning that he had three wins in a row that year. In 2014, he had 5 more victories some of which were technical knockouts.

His won his ninth professional match, earning him the WBC International heavyweight Title. He was also named the Prospect of the Year by the Ring magazine.

In 2015, he went onto combat more distinguished heavyweight boxers like the American boxer Kevin Johnson. He was an unstoppable boxing machine that did not get a single defeat.

More wins

Later in 2015, he participated in the championship for the Commonwealth heavyweight title. He battled against an intercontinental IBO champion and another record-owner in terms of being undefeated. Winning both of the games, he acquired the title for himself and subsequently got awarded 3 million GBP.

2017 was a golden era for Joshua who fought against Wladimir Klitschko who was holding two heavyweight world champion titles at the time. His victory brought him universal acclaim as well as the top ranking as the world’s best active heavyweight.

Of all the 23 games he partook in, he won all except the last one where he lost by a technical knockout in the last round to Andy Ruiz Jr, defying the expectations in Joshua’s favor.

Ruiz  became the first Mexican boxer to hold world heavyweight champion titles. Despite the defeat, Joshua is regarded and ranked as one of the world’s most active heavyweight boxers.
