Gone Too Soob: Ghanaian Footballer Christian Atsu reported dead – Turkey Earthquake
Ghanaian footballer, Christian Atsu has been reported dead. The motionless body was discovered beneath the building where he resided in southern Turkey after a series of earthquakes struck the area last week. The news was verified this morning, February 18, 2023, by the player’s agent, Murat Uzunmehmet.
“Atsu’s lifeless body was found under the rubble. Currently, more items are still being taken out. His phone was also found.” He said
The 31-year-old footballer has been missing since the earthquake on February 6 destroyed the building in which he resided in Hatay, southern Turkey. Many people began praying for his quick recovery after hearing this.
Following the news of his death, Hatayspor has announced that “The funeral of our football player Christian Atsu, who lost his life under the rubble (debris), is on his way to be sent to his hometown, Ghana. We will not forget you, Atsu. Peace be upon you, beautiful person”.

Earlier on Friday, Hatayspor’s manager revealed that Atsu had been set to fly out of southern Turkey hours before the tremors however, he stayed with the club after scoring the game-winning goal in the Super Lig match on February 5. The Turkish club, Hatayspor signed the ex-Chelsea midfielder in September after he had previously played for Everton, Chelsea, and Newcastle United.
