Madonna’s Raising Malawi Launches Powerful New Initiative to Support Children’s Healthcare
Global pop icon and humanitarian Madonna continues to deepen her legacy in philanthropy with the launch of a powerful new initiative under her nonprofit, Raising Malawi. The initiative aims to provide consistent, life-saving medical care for children in Malawi through monthly donor support, ensuring the long-term sustainability of one of the country’s most vital pediatric centers — the Mercy James Centre for Pediatric Surgery and Intensive Care.
A Personal Mission Turned Lifesaving Movement
Madonna co-founded Raising Malawi in 2006 with the mission to improve the lives of orphans and vulnerable children in the country. Named after her adopted daughter, the Mercy James Centre — opened in 2017 — was the first and only specialized children’s hospital in the region, drastically improving access to high-quality pediatric care.
In a heartfelt message to supporters, Madonna shared:

A Call for Sustainable Giving
The new initiative introduces a monthly giving program where donors can choose to contribute regularly to support critical services at the Mercy James Centre. These contributions will fund surgeries, intensive care treatment, medical equipment, and staff training, directly benefiting children in desperate need.
According to Raising Malawi, just $20 a month can help provide medicine and supplies for an entire pediatric procedure — a small amount that makes a massive difference in a country where healthcare resources are scarce.
