Sending Nudes on Phone might land you in jail for 30 years
In Case You Missed It – Do you love sending nude photos via the internet or phone to your friends?
If you do, you have to think twice especially if you’re based in Kenya… or you might spend half of your life in prison.
According to reports, a new bill is proposing that such people be fines Sh300,000 or be jailed for 30 years or both if found guilty.
“A person who transfers, publishes, or disseminates, including making a digital depiction available for distribution or downloading through any other means of transferring data to a computer,
the intimate image of another person commits an offence and is liable, on conviction to a term of imprisonment not exceeding thirty years or fine not exceeding three hundred thousand shillings or both,”
Article 28 of the Cyber Security and Protection Bill 2016.
The bill which is said to be sponsored by Nyeri senator and chairperson of Committee on Information and Technology Mutahi Kagwe is set to be debated and passed if all goes as planned.
“While computers have increased human connectivity and have a direct impact on development, they also pose a risk to the users.
At a larger scale they may be used to disrupt the delivery of essential services and in effect cause irreparable harm to the economy and lives of people,” …Nairobi News
The bill which seems too harsh is meant to regulate the use of social media to spread hate and ruin other people’s lives.
