In September 2018, in Washington D.C, the president of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo – Addo officially declared August 2019 as “year of Return”.
The “Year of return “, is an initiative by the Ghana government to give room for Africans abroad to embark on a birth-right journey to visit Africa.
Especially Ghana, in remembrance of the early batch of Africans who were persuasively sent from Africa to the united states of America to go through times of agony, denial and embarrassment, four hundred (400) years ago.

It is believed that, the idea of inviting Africans from the diaspora will serve a union between the Africans on the continent and their families across the globe.
Addressing the media, the chief executive officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority,
Mr Akwasi Agyeman made the public aware of some benefit this event has brought to the Ghanaian economy and its relationship with the developed countries.
He said that, the year of return has contributed to an increase in the economy of Ghana in the sense that,
a lot of ‘Black’ Americans have visited the country as a result, profits have been made into tourist sites, airlines, guesthouses, arts and eateries.

Also, apart from it being a year of visitation and commemoration, Ghana is likely to gain recognition in terms of tourism internationally.
However, with all the above-mentioned merits, there could be some glitches, taking into consideration the larger effect on the economy.
Thus, inflation could be activated in the local economy since services made to foreigners are increased with the mindset that foreigners are rich and this could affect the
New Patriotic Party Negatively in the 2020 election.
Whatever the outcome of the election next year, one thing is for sure,
